Attitude is everything
Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. When something is distasteful to us we can blow it out of all proportion. Whether it is the passage of a health bill that does not say anything about health or a family squabble, the truth is life will go on. We will find ways to adapt. It is up to us. How we handle adversity depends solely on us. We can stir up the pot, raise our blood pressure predict all sorts of calamities, but most likely none of the things that we worry about will actually happen. Something else will happen. It is a law of nature that when we are absolutely positive that we know what will happen next, it doesn’t.
It is much better to move on to the next task. Do not let too much importance attach itself to what the government or your boss, or your friends or family say or do. For instance in times of great turmoil, it is sometimes easier to achieve one’s goals than in a more peaceful time when everyone else is trying to achieve the same thing. When most people allow themselves to be sidetracked because of events over which they have little or no control, that is the time to sneak in and take the prize, win the contract, or build a company.
It is also a good example to others, for us to remain calm and unruffled in the face of difficulties. Someone has to. Let it be you. Your over-all quality of life will be much enhanced. You may even pat yourself on the back for being mature and even wise. Others will be reassured by your demeanor and flock to you. Keep the turmoil to a minimum and emanate a sense of serenity. This engenders feelings of good will to all and simply makes you more fun to be around.
In the final plays of the game of life, it is more important to be happy than to be right. Don’t misunderstand me. I love to be right. As I gain in wisdom, though I realize that sometimes the cost is too high. A serene maturity is much more enjoyable than a life of thinly veiled anxiety caused by being constantly disappointed by things not going your way. Lighten up! None of us is going to get out of here alive! Enjoy the moment. And don’t forget to sparkle!
